Head of Political and Economic Section of the US Embassy in Podgorica Mr Erik Holmgren today visited Democracy Workshops “Barbara Prammer” of the Parliament of Montenegro and talked to the students of the QSI International School of Montenegro on the topic “Democracy and the Parliament”.

The International School students had the opportunity to talk to Mr Holmgren and learn from him why participation in democracy was important, how they could contribute, how the elections in America looked like, why voting was important, what were the differences between Montenegrin and US election systems and why division of powers was important.

Mr Holmgren said to the children that it was important to participate in all the things concerning them, as well as that if they voted they would have the opportunity to elect somebody who would advocate for the things important to them.

In the workshop, the students also had the opportunity to visit the Parliament of Montenegro, where they were greeted by the President of the Parliament of Montenegro who replied to their questions. After that, the students toured the building of the Parliament and were informed on the history and the role of the Parliament of Montenegro in Montenegrin society.

Nearly 13,000 of Montenegrin primary school students completed the Democracy Workshops. You can find more information on Democracy Workshops if you visit their website: www.demokratskeradionice.me
