Meeting of the President of the Parliament with Mr David Hobbs and Mr Johannes Hahn

Politically stable Montenegro continues its integration path

During the meeting with Secretary General of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Mr David Hobbs, President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Darko Pajović reiterated confidence that Montenegro’s full membership to NATO would guarantee peace and stability of the state. Therefore, that path has no alternative, Mr Pajović emphaised, adding that it would also have a significant influence on other Western Balkans countries. In the press statement, after the meeting, the Secretary General of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly said:  “We are absolutely delighted that Montenegro is well on the path to becoming a full member of the North Atlantic Alliance, and the NATO Parliamentary Assembly is playing its part by pressing all the national parliaments to press ahead with ratification as rapidly as possible, so the full membership happens without any delay”.

At the end of a two-day official visit to Brussels, the President of the Montenegrin Parliament also met Commissioner for European Neighbourhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Mr Johannes Hahn, in the European Commission. Mr Pajović informed the Commissioner about activities of the Parliament in creating conditions for fair and free elections, as well as other institutional activities which would make them significantly better in comparison to the elections of 2012.

Speaking about political agreement between the government and the opposition, Mr Johannes Hahn congratulated on brave and in part of the public unpopular decision, which has ensured stability of the state. He also expressed admiration that Montenegro succeeded to resolve the political crisis without mediation of the international community.
