Committee on Monitoring the Application of the Law on Election of Councillors and MPs in the part relating to the media holds its second meeting

At today’s second meeting of the Committee on Monitoring the Application of the Law on Election of Councillors and MPs in the part relating to the media, members of the Committee and editors-in-chief of electronic media in Montenegro exchanged opinions with regard to media reporting during the election campaign.

The attendees stated different opinions about the Agency for Electronic Media and its need to create a number of general rules applicable to both - public and private electronic media. They emphasised that issues such as violating public moral and personality as well as respect of journalist standards were very sensitive. They achieved agreement on respect of standards of the self-regulatory bodies, respect of the Electronic Media Law and Convention on Human Rights. Also, they unequivocally pointed out that journalists must not spread hate speech. They said that also in the future free and uncensored journalism must be nourished, whereby journalist ethics would be the only limiting factor for publishing contents of insulting or discriminatory nature.

The meeting was attended by the Committee members: Ms Nada Drobnjak, Mr Danko Šarančić, Mr Suljo Mustafić, Mr Slaven Radunović, Mr Koča Pavlović and Mr Vladislav Bojović.

The meeting was not attended by: Ms Žana Filipović, Mr Genci Nimanbegu and Ms Danijela Danka Marković.
