The procedure for the election of director of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption was conducted in utterly transparent and lawful manner.
Public announcement for the election of director of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption was published in dailies “Pobjeda”, “Dan”, independent daily “Vijesti” and “Dnevne novine” as well as on the web page of the Parliament of Montenegro. Thereupon, the List of candidates meeting the requirements was determined at the meeting of the Council, attended by all of its members. At the following meeting, the candidates from the List were interviewed, and complying with the legal procedure and taking into consideration the submitted documents, the Committee of the Agency, with the necessary majority of votes (four of the total five), elected the director.
The voting was attended by interested representatives of the media and non-governmental organisations.
Written and explained proposal of the programme and key priorities of the Agency was exposed by the candidates individually, with presence of the Council members, in line with Article 91 paragraph 5 of the Law on Prevention of Corruption.
Given the fact that the Council of the Agency for Prevention of Corruption started working on 23 July 2015, when the constitutive meeting of the Council was held, and Director of the Agency elected at the fifth meeting of the Council of 1 October 2015, imprecise assessment that: “Decision of the Council is the result of political corruption”, given by one of the candidates, is utterly ungrounded and easily stated, with the aim of creating a wrong image regarding the aims and future concrete results of the Agency.
I would like to remind that the Council of the Agency was elected on the proposal by the Anti-corruption Committee, determined by the Commission - composed of representatives of the Prosecutorial Council, Judicial Council, non-governmental organisations and two representatives of the Parliament of Montenegro (one from the ruling coalition and the other from the opposition parties).
