On day one of the Joint Seminar of the Mediterranean and Middle East Special Group and Sub-Committee on Transatlantic Economic Relations, participants in the gathering held a debate on the ideological, theological and socio-economic origins of jihadist terrorism, within which rapporteur Mr Andrea Manciulli presented the report on the topic “The Challenge to Regional and International Security”, which was followed by remarks by Undersecretary of State in charge of National Security Mr Marco Minniti on “The Unity of the West in the Fight against Terrorism”.
During the second session of the Seminar, dedicated to the topic “Confronting the Refugee Crisis”, Program Director, representative of the International Crisis Group for Middle East and North Africa, Dr Joost Hiltermann remarked on the political and security origins of the refugee crisis, and on this occasion the participants in the gathering were also addressed by Director of International and European Forum for Migration research (FIERI) dr Ferruccio Pastore, on the topic “European Responses to the Refugees Crisis”.
The remarks on the fight against terrorism in Italy by Minister of Interior Mr Angelino Alfano opened the third session of the Joint Seminar on the topic “Terrorist Financing”, and then the participants in the gathering were addressed by Director of the Centre for Financial Crime and Security Studies from London Mr Tom Keatinge on “The Role of Finance in Identifying Western Foreign Terrorist Fighters”.
The Joint Seminar of the Mediterranean and Middle East Special Group of NATO PA and Sub-Committee on Transatlantic Economic Relations of NATO PA will continue tomorrow, and on this occasion the Parliament of Montenegro is represented by member of the Security and Defence Committee Mr Luiđ Ljubo Škrelja.
