Plenary Sitting of the Spring Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly

Member of the Permanent Delegation of the Parliament of Montenegro to the NATO PA Mr Obrad Mišo Stanišić takes part in the Sitting

On day four of the session, during the Plenary Sitting, the participants were addressed by: Mr Michael Turner, President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly; Mr Ilir Meta, Speaker of the Parliament of the Republic of Albania; Mr Edi Rama, Prime Minister of the Republic of Albania; Mr Milo Đukanović, Prime Minister of Montenegro, and Ambassador Mr Alexander Wershbow, NATO Deputy Secretary General, followed by the time allocated for debate.

In his address, Prime Minister of Montenegro Mr Milo Đukanović, among other things, stated that, bearing in mind that the European and Euro-Atlantic integration represented strategic priorities of Montenegro, the signing of the Accession Protocol represented one of the most significant achievements of our country in the previous decade and also acknowledgement of the Alliance that in the previous period Montenegro had worked with dedication and commitment on achieving the set goal to become a part of the family of the NATO member states.

As the EU and NATO memberships represented a second name for stability and prosperity in the region, Montenegro would continue to make efforts to build good neighbouring relations and regional cooperation, and by becoming a part of the NATO community, as the most secure framework for stability and security in the Balkans, it would continue to contribute to regional security in Europe.

In that context he especially stressed that Montenegro was ready to give further contribution to the system of collective security and that the NATO had a reliable partner and friend in Montenegro.

In the upcoming period, Montenegro would continue with dedicated work which would ensure stability and prosperity for future generations, concluded Mr Đukanović.

In the final part of the Sitting, based on the held discussion, there was voting of participants on the draft Declaration “A United and Resolute Agenda for NATO at the Warsaw Summit” and on proposals for financial documents, following the presentation by the Treasurer of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly.

The 2016 Spring Session of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly ends today.
