10th SEEPC Conference of Parliament Speakers held

Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Suljo Mustafić participated in the work of the 10th SEEPC Conference of Parliament Speakers - South Eastern Europe Partnership Cooperation, held under Macedonian presidency over this Initiative, in Ohrid, from 26 to 28 May

During the Conference, it was talked on new challenges of economic crises, role of national parliaments and regional inter-parliamentary cooperation. In addition, the Report of the Working Group “SEECP PD”, was presented. The Working Group was formed with the aim of creating modalities and providing guidelines for further strengthening of this initiative which would eventually lead to the formation of the Parliamentary Assembly of the South East Europe Cooperation Process.

In his addressing to Conference of Parliament Speakers participants, Mr Mustafić said that Montenegro had defined regional cooperation as one of the most important foreign-policy priorities and that through willingness for establishment of cooperation in that field, it actively participated in the work of numerous regional organisations and initiatives.

Mr Mustafić also emphasised that the joint international aim of the regional countries – EU membership was not possible to achieve without active role in the regional cooperation and consideration of foreign policy in regional context. At the Conference margins, Mr Mustafić met with the Speaker of Grand National Assembly of Turkey Mr Cemil Çiçek, Deputy Chair of the House of Representatives in the Parliamentary Assembly of Bosnia and Herzegovina Mr Milorad Živković and also had informal meetings with President of the Assembly of the Republic of Macedonia Mr Trajko Veljanovski as well as with Speaker of the Croatian Parliament Mr Josip Leka and Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Mr Nebojša Stefanović.

During the conversation with Mr Çiçek, good relations between Montenegro and Turkey were emphasized especially in the field of economy and the interlocutors voiced willingness for intensifying parliamentary cooperation, since it was especially important for improving overall relations of the two countries.

SEEPC Conference of Parliament Speakers - South Eastern Europe Partnership Cooperation ended with adoption of joint statement, with the invitation to hold the inaugural session of the Parliamentary Assembly SEEPC in Bucharest, during Romanian presidency over this Initiative.
