Conference – Financial Aspects of Economic Crisis and their Impact on Security Sector – Budva

At the invitation of the Centre for Security Cooperation (RACVIAC), the conference was opened by the Member of the Parliament  Mr. Mevludin Nuhodžić.

Member of the Parliament Mr. Mevludin Nuhodžić participated today in the conference titled “Financial Aspects of Economic Crisis and their Impact on Security Sector”, organized in Budva by the Centre for Security Cooperation (RACVIAC) in cooperation with the Ministry of Defense of Montenegro.

In the opening statement, Member of the Parliament, Mr. Nuhodžić pointed out that developing friendly and neighborly basis through resolving and elimination of issues, focusing on improvement of the Euro-Atlantic integration process and determining priorities of the internal foreign and security policies, as well as limiting the budget restrictions in that field, represented sustainable mechanisms for surpassing security and economic challenges. Mr. Nuhodžić added that strengthening the role and capacity of the parliament as the highest democratic institution and interactive relation towards the government would bring more successful and better solutions in the field of security, starting from effectiveness of strategic documents that would regulate this field to planning, adopting, executing and control of budget funds expenditures.  

Effects of economic crisis on the sector of defense and security, as well as its impact on budget allocations and general trend of expenditure in the countries from the region were addressed at the conference. During the discussion, participants highly assessed the role and seriousness of the Parliament of Montenegro with regard to the considering the effects of economic crisis and impact on the security system. Newly appointed Director of the Centre for Security Cooperation, Ambassador Mr. Branimir Mandić expressed readiness of RACVIAC to continue and enhance cooperation, pointing out that progress Montenegro made represented the example of good practice for the countries in the region and wider.  Also, it was pointed in particular to the importance of implementation of the adopted Law on Parliamentary Supervision in the field of security and defense and its influence in the mentioned field. It was jointly assessed that reduction of budget funds for the defense and security sector must not impair the essential functions of this system.

Representatives of committees on security and defense, ministries of defense and other competent bodies, as well as experts in the field of economy and finance in the region participated in the meeting.
