Delegation of the Parliament of Montenegro is composed of MPs: Slaven Radunović, Milutin Simović, Obrad Stanišić, Mevludin Nuhodžić, Nada Drobnjak, Damir Šehović, Predrag Bulatović, Danko Šarančić, Darko Pajović and Azra Jasavić.
President Krivokapić had a meeting today with the new Chair of the Delegation of the European Parliament for relations with Montenegro Anneliese Dodds, where it was stated that the new composition of the European MPs in the committee would give new impetus to the process of Montenegro's negotiations with the EU. Krivokapić stressed that the practice was that European MPs were friendly critics fairest and most useful to the negotiation process, expressing the hope that this trend would continue in the new session of SAPC.
At the opening of the IX SAPC, co-chair of the meeting, Anneliese Dodds pointed out that the new composition of the European Parliament would continue to support Montenegro in order to create the conditions for accession to the EU, and maintain Montenegro's commitment regarding the implementation of necessary reforms in the fields covered by Chapters 23 and 24.
President Krivokapić, as the co-chair of SAPC, expressed gratitude to former composition of the European Parliament for cooperation and expressed hope that the new composition would operate in the same direction, and that in the spirit of joint work MPs of both parliaments would continue with their efforts toward responding to requests Montenegro has on its path towards the EU.
Introductory remarks regarding the current state of the accession negotiations and relations between the European Union and Montenegro on behalf of the Government of Montenegro were made by Igor Lukšić, Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration of Montenegro, who emphasized the contribution of Montenegro regarding the implementation of priorities within the European agenda, through creation a comprehensive action plans, and national economic programs, with the aim of exploiting the momentum for Montenegro’s accession to the EU.
Participants were addressed by Alberto Cuttilo on behalf of the Italian presidency of the Council of the EU, Aleksandra Kas Granje on behalf of the European Commission in order to give their view on the current state and dynamics of relations between the EU and Montenegro. Granje also emphasized that the rule of law should be regarded not only as an obligation of Chapters 23 and 24, but as a prerequisite for attracting foreign direct investments that need a secure legal environment. Recent adoption of the Strategy of the European Union in the framework of the Adriatic - Ionian Initiativewas specifically highlighted, which significantly contributed to cooperation between the governments of the Western Balkans. In addition, it was concluded that it was necessary to provide mechanisms for the implementation of appropriate reforms and ensure their sustainability, not only in terms of the rule of law but also in the fields of economy and competitiveness, public administration and public finance system.
The ninth meeting of SAPC will be continued tomorrow when the adoption of Declaration with joint recommendations is expected, as well as the participation of MPs in the meeting of the EP Committee on Foreign Affairs (AFET).
