Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Branko Radulović visited the plant “Aluminij” Mostar

Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Branko Radulović, professor PhD, spoke today with the management of the plant “Aluminij” in Mostar, the Director of the company Mr Ivo Bradvica, Executive Director for Technical Affairs and Development Mr Željko Boras, and the Executive Director for Economic, Financial and Commercial Affairs Mr Mladen Galić.

On this occasion, a press conference was held, where the Vice President of the Parliament Mr Branko Radulović, professor PhD, and the Director of the company Mr Ivo Bradvica spoke.

They pointed out that nowadays Plant in Mostar represents one of the most modern plants in Europe and the world, with the highest ecologic standards. The fact that the oldest technological equipment was installed ten years ago speaks in favour of the type of technological process. The installed equipment was procured from the leading manufacturers of the world, and the latest equipment that was installed two months ago is intended for producing aluminium based alloys with capacity of 30,000 tons per year. The total production is about 165,000 tons of aluminium, out of which “Glenkora” uses 35,000 tons of the “famous” ingots of Aluminium Plant Podgorica (KAP), which is being procured from the Russian owners.

However, it could be heard that, despite the exceptionally high level of development of technological and ecological performance, “Aluminij” in Mostar is in certain temptation due to very high prices of electrical energy from the Elektroprivreda of Bosnia and Herzegovina, at €60 per MWh. In comparison, our KAP operates at a loss, even though it pays electricity at €30 per MWh. Also, another problem of the plant "Aluminij" is the regular supply of alumina which has to be imported from the warm destinations outside of Europe, and its price considerably increases the production prices due to transport. An additional problem is that “Glenkor” participates in commercial affairs both as customer and supplier and thus limits development, and, similarly as with KAP, calls into question the development of domestic processors.

During today's meeting, it was concluded that it is necessary to support the initiative for establishing association of producers and processors in the region, that the role of the state must be significant in achieving competitive electricity prices, that the regional cooperation is essential, that there is room for work for both KAP and plant "Aluminij", as producers of primary aluminium, as well as that the primary aluminium needs to be processed in the region in order to achieve a multiplication effect and raise the real economy with a high degree of profit through the development of aluminium processing and establishing many small and medium enterprises.

The management of the plant "Aluminij" from Mostar pointed out that the good cooperation between KAP and the Plant from Mostar lasting several years would be at an even higher level and that they would provide all the technical and logistic support in order to have KAP reach the technologic development similar to that of "Aluminij".
