President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr. Ranko Krivokapić, met today ERSTE Foundation Executive Director, Ms. Doraja Eberle. Mr. Krivokapić and Ms. Eberle expressed pleasure over the cooperation achieved between the Parliament and ERSTE Foundation through “Democratic workshop“ project. Ms. Eberle praised willingness of young people in Montenegro to acquire new knowledge on politics and democratic processes. Mr. Krivokapić said that the Parliament of Montenegro, through its project “Open Parliament”, worked on strengthening relations between the Parliament and the young people, in particular elementary school population. Mr. Krivokapić also pointed out that the Parliament was active promoter of openness and education in Montenegro, and that it must be a school of democracy. President Krivokapić, and ERSTE Foundation Executive Director visited today democratic workshop where students of Elementary school “Oktoih” participated in.
“Democratic workshop” project was planned to be the program of civic education for students of elementary schools, in order to acquire knowledge on parliamentary democracy, functioning of the Parliament, adoption and implementation of laws, as well as the media role in a pluralistic society.
Two pilot workshops were organized in Elementary school “Sutjeska“ in May 2012, within the preparations for joint project of the Parliament and ERSTE Foundation. Pilot project started on 8th October 2012 and will last approximately 30 days, and upon that its implementation will begin.
