The process that begun during the Montenegrin presidency over the initiative was completed with today’s session, when a working group was established, whose task was to work on the establishment of the Parliamentary dimension.
President Krivokapić spoke on the subject ‟Future Role of the Parliamentary Assembly of the South-East European Cooperation Process in the European framework”. ‟It is our duty as members of parliaments to provide the world to be a safe place in all of the regions and give our best for our differences never to become an obstacle for the realization of our common goals. Recent developments on the border of our region have shown that we must always be prepared for unexpected challenges. Being the President of the biggest parliamentary assembly in the world, every day I have the opportunity to be the witness of the power of effective parliamentary diplomacy, because we as parliamentarians must always be aware of the fact that the crisis is not an excuse for the slow response but rather a reason for better organization“, Mr Krivokapić pointed out on this occasion.
The President Krivokapić had bilateral meetings during his stay in Bucharest with the host, the President of the Chamber of Deputies of Romania, Mr Valeriu Zgonea, the President of the Grand National Assembly of Turkey, Mr Cemil Çiçek and the Chairman of the Parliament of Albania, Mr Ilir Meta.
During his meeting with Mr Zgonea, President Krivokapić pointed out that the frequency of mutual visits at the highest level was the indicator of exceptional friendly relations between Montenegro and Romania, as well as fruitful cooperation which, among other things, resulted in successfully working together on the initiative of establishing the Parliamentary Dimension of the South-East European Cooperation Process.
During the discussion with Mr Çiçek, President Krivokapić pointed out to the upward trajectory of friendly relations between Montenegro and Turkey. Mr Krivokapić and Mr Çiçek discussed the current political moment in the region and joint efforts for its solving. Mr Krivokapić said that standards cannot be made to measure past and that parliamentary diplomacy must use timelines to provide prevention and resolution of conflicts.
Mr Krivokapić and Mr Meta discussed current political moment of the process of European integration, being the position of both countries, as well as the ways in which Montenegro, as the leader of this process, could help Albania. The interlocutors exchanged views on the economic situation and the presence of foreign direct investments in the region as indicators that our countries progress in democratic way, because only as safe societies of the rule of law they can be interesting to large investors.
Aside from the President Krivokapić, the Montenegrin delegation is also composed of MPs Ms Žana Filipović, Mr Nebojša Medojević, Mr Dritan Abazović and Genci Nimanbegu.
