President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr. Ranko Krivokapić received the Delegation of the European Parliament

MEPs voiced pleasure over continuous progress of Montenegro on its path to the European Union, thus earning to be the only country in the region to begin the accession negotiations.

President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr. Ranko Krivokapić, received in Podgorica today, the Delegation of the European Parliament, composed of the Committee on Budget members, headed by MEP Salvador Garriga Polled.

During the conversation with European parliamentarians, President Krivokapić thanked for the full support which European Parliament provided to Montenegro on its path to the EU, emphasizing that support as especially important due to the strengthened role of the EP. European Parliament has always had necessary sensibility regarding enlargement policy and the position of Montenegro in that process as well, Mr. Krivokapić said, stating that he was aware of the importance of the regular contacts with European parliamentarians and high officials of the EU, as well active role of the Parliament of Montenegro in that process.

The further parliamentary challenges in the negotiations phase were discussed, on occasion of which, Mr. Krivokapić informed interlocutors on activities that were continuously conducted, in order that Parliament of Montenegro prepare itself institutionally for new European obligations.

President Krivokapić stressed that the Parliament of Montenegro strengthened its capacities continuously, and significantly contributed to rising of the democratic standards level, which was recognizable in the latest report of the European Commission. He pointed out that consensual adoption of the Rules of Procedure as well as adoption of the Law on Parliamentary Investigation was a reflection of our parliamentary maturity and opening of additional space for strengthening the role of opposition in the Parliament, thus strengthening mechanisms for the control of executive power.
