During the meeting, they discussed on regional position and foreign policy challenges that the two countries has been facing with.
A special attention was devoted to issues of new global political architecture and contemporary safety challenges manifested primarily through open issues in the Middle East and the whole of the Arab world, especially in the context of intensifying crisis and conflicts caused by the emergence of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria.
President Krivokapić informed his interlocutor on experience and activities which he had at the position of the OSCE PA President and which he has been still undertaking in the capacity of President Emeritus regarding the strengthening of the OSCE in new political and safety developments, with the aim of positioning the organisation as one of the key political actors at the global scene.
President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ranko Krivokapić, during the official visit to the United Arab Emirates, in the capacity of President Emeritus of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, held a lecture at the New York University in Abu Dhabi for students, professors and representatives of diplomatic corps, on the topic: “Safety and Security: The Basis for Stable Development”.
In his address, President Krivokapić emphasised that today’s words was in front of the great political and safety challenges and that our planet has been moving faster than ever in its history, what only increases the uncertainty of challenges of the new era. He said that there were too many signs that big, long-delayed issues emerge to the surface seeking for answers.
“Multi-polarity becomes one of the key characteristics of global political context. The world needs multi-polarity which will be not based on mutual fear and distrust but on true cooperation, mutual respect and fundamental and historically confirmed values”, Mr Krivokapić said. He also stressed that new multi-polarity must include a division of responsibilities, risk and burden for keeping the world’s peace and stability.”
Speaking on key security and developmental challenges on the Balkans, President Krivokapić underlined that only the rule of law provided functional institutions which were capable to fight with all security risks and causes of instability.
Without the rule of law there is no security and safety and thus no basis for the stable development of the Western Balkans”, Mr Krivokapić said.
He particularly emphasised that the rule of law was the greatest guarantee for investors who come to the region that their investments would be safe.
“Therefore, the rule of law maybe nothing less the need of investors than the need of our Balkan societies”, Mr Krivokapić concluded.
President Krivokapić also met with Ministry of International Co-operation and Development Sheikha Lubna Al Qasimi.
Speaking on numerous prejudices related to understanding of Islam, particularly nowadays, he said that Islam was an integral, inseparable and indelible part of Europe, its culture, history and tradition.
“Islam is a part of the European past, present and future. Europe that I believe in. The Europe that I am decisive further to build with you. The Europe of differences, political and religion tolerance. That is not a Europe of conflicting but unique civilisation. The Europe which has learnt a lesson from its colonial past, Europe which is resolute to build a partnering relation with Islamic world”, President Ranko Krivokapić stressed.
