Thanking President Michael Turner, as well as the hosts – the Parliament of Hungary, on their direct support of invitation to Montenegro by the end of 2015, and assessment on the basis of individual performance, President Krivokapić emphasised that we would not miss this unique opportunity to prove our readiness and dedication to meeting conditions for receiving the invitation to the full-fledged membership.
The NATO Parliamentary Assembly today adopted the Declaration on NATO Enlargement, stressing that NATO aspirants must continue with necessary preparations to fulfil the requirements of NATO membership as set out in Article 10 of the Washington Treaty. Emphasising that NATO enlargement poses no threat to any nation but rather enhances the security and stability of the entire Euro-Atlantic region, it urged the governments and parliaments of the North Atlantic Alliance “to continue with the support agreed at the Summit for aspirant countries, and to decide on Montenegro’s invitation by the end of 2015”.
President Krivokapić also spoke with President of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly Mr Michael Turner, who once more conveyed great support of the US Congress to the enlargement policy. President Krivokapić thanked him for the great support of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly as well, which had clearly sent a message to its member states that the NATO must remain dedicated to the enlargement policy.
At a separate meeting with the Deputy Secretary General of NATO Ambassador Mr Alexander Vershbow, more support messages were conveyed following the ministerial meeting in Antalya, but also the need to completely fulfil the conditions that the member states were expecting from Montenegro. The final six months of this historic path for Montenegro must be dominantly dedicated to raising the public support and measurable progress in the rule of law.
President Krivokapić also gathered Speakers of the Parliaments of Bosnia and Herzegovina, Macedonia, and Georgia. The President emphasised that the countries that are at the door of NATO needed to cooperate more and to mutually support each other. The Speakers pointed out that the progress of any of the countries was a joint success and that all countries must try to make the enlargement policy remain in the focus of the Alliance.
