President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr. Ranko Krivokapić, had a joint meeting today in Brussels with Ms. Sabine de Bethune, the Lady President of Belgian Senate, and Mr. André Flahaut, the President of the Belgian House of Representatives
The importance of strengthening cooperation between Montenegrin and Belgian Parliament, based on frequent meetings of leaders of these institutions as well as on cooperation achieved through parliamentary friendship groups, was stressed during the meeting.
President Mr. Krivokapić emphasized the importance of good cooperation between the two countries, expressing exceptional gratitude over the fact that Belgium, being the founder of the EU, had a special sensibility for Euro Atlantic aspirations of Montenegro.
The hosts expressed recognition to our country over the past achievements in the process of Euro Atlantic integration and reminded that the official Brussels, as capital of the European Union, would continue to be an ally of our country on its path towards the membership in the family of European peoples.
The interlocutors agreed that small states should especially nourish the culture of good neighborly relations, particularly important for post-conflict societies and for joint integration in the European Union.
Taking into consideration the importance that the European Union attached to regional initiatives, it was jointly stated that, Cetinje Parliamentary Forum (CPF), as initial project of the Parliament of Montenegro, significantly contributed to enhancement of regional cooperation and strengthening of parliamentary diplomacy as increasingly important political mechanism.
