President Pajović receives Ambassador Drobnič for a farewell visit

President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Darko Pajović today received Head of the EU Delegation to Montenegro Ambassador Mr Mitja Drobnič for a farewell visit.

President Pajović has expressed satisfaction over the fact that in these four years, during Ambassador Drobnič’s term of office, relations of Montenegro and European Union improved, which, institutionally as well as essentially, means the highest possible level of relations between the EU and non-member states. The President has thanked for the support to the Parliament of Montenegro over these years, which adopted a series of new laws. These laws have provided the initiation and continuation of negotiations between Montenegro and EU, ranging from the set of laws in the field of judiciary, justice, prosecution to the set of electoral laws, all of which made a significant impact on further democratisation of society.

Ambassador Drobnič has stressed that these four years were a good opportunity to analyse track records. He said that decision of the EU to open negotiations with Montenegro by the end of 2012 proved to be right. The interlocutors expressed hope that the fulfilment of the obligations under the Agreement between the government and opposition would result in holding fair and free elections.

The President has informed the guest on intensive activities of the Parliament in less than two months, saying that since 2 June of this year the Parliament adopted 132 legal acts, whereas the plan is to adopt additional 21 proposals for laws by the end of this week. When it comes to fulfilment of the obligations under the Agreement, the President added that the Administrative Committee of the Parliament of Montenegro sent to the Parliament the proposals for members of the Committee on monitoring the application of laws and other regulations important for building trust in the election process, Temporary committee on monitoring the investigation of cases of endangering security of journalists and media outlets as well as Committee on monitoring the application of the Law on Election of Councillors and MPs in the part relating to the media - in line with Article 64b of the Law on Election of Councillors and MPs.
