President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ranko Krivokapić held talks with the Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighbourhood Policy Mr Štefan Füle in Brussels, on challenges set before Montenegro.
They expressed expectations that the Parliament would provide a key contribution as it was a case in opening of negotiations, this time through constitutional reforms and initiation of the inquiry committee, but that the actual results were necessary by other branches of political system – judicial and executive.
Commissioner Füle emphasized that the progress in accession negotiations required fast adoption of constitutional amendments strengthening independence and responsibility of judiciary by Venice Commission recommendations, and that Montenegrin Parliament played a key role in strengthening public confidence in state institutions. He emphasized that the number of challenges at political level was accumulating and that was about time to start solving them.
Krivokapić emphasized that as leaders we have a special obligation for the overall political life to take place at the higher level of democratic standards. Montenegro is in focus now; each activity has an additional commitment towards European partners.
