The President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Ranko Krivokapić is staying in Copenhagen, where he, as a member of the OSCE Ad Hoc Committee on Reform and Transparency, participates at the meeting of that working body.
This special OSCE working body, composed of the eminent representatives with many years of service and experience in this organization, has the aim to promote the work of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly, whose members are spread over the territories from Vancouver to Vladivostok.
The Committee especially dealt with the issue of further strengthening the role of the Parliamentary Assembly in the process of monitoring elections in member states and promotion of democratic standards in the issues belonging to the third dimension of OSCE. It was jointly concluded that the Parliamentary Assembly should be even strongly involved in the activities of monitoring and assessment of fulfilment of election democratic standards, with special emphasis on the upcoming election in Albania and Bulgaria.
President Krivokapić met today in Copenhagen with the Speaker of the Danish Parliament Mr Mogens Lykketoft.
Mr Krivokapić pointed out his gratitude regarding the fact that it was precisely during the Danish presiding over the European Union Montenegro had opened its pre-accession negotiations. He pointed out that this kind of friendly understanding was the key for cooperation between our states, but also for promotion of Montenegrin progress on its path to European integration.
The interlocutors agreed that the Nordic cooperation model, in which Denmark actively participated, by its duration spanning over multiple decades has shown to be a quality approach toward strengthening of the regional partnership, as well as that similar cooperation models would be also useful in many ways for the region of the Western Balkans.
During his stay in Copenhagen, President Krivokapić participated at the meeting of the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly Bureau, where the most important challenges that the Parliamentary Assembly was facing were being considered. At the Bureau meeting there was discussion on the current issues from all of the OSCE dimensions on which the parliamentarians would vote at the upcoming annual ordinary session of the Parliamentary Assembly.
