Meeting Mr. Krivokapić - Fule

The President of the Parliament of Montenegro, Mr. Ranko Krivokapić, visited Brussels where he met European Commissioner for Enlargement and Neighborhood Policy, Mr. Štefan Fule, and addressed the International Relations Committee of the European Parliament – AFET, upon invitation of the Chairman of the Committee Mr. Elman Brook.

The President Krivokapić thanked the Commissioner Füle for the support to Montenegro in all previous phases of European Integration and stressed that our country was aware of the responsibility as currently the sole negotiator from Western Balkans. 
“I am positive that Montenegro will, as many times before, justify the European confidence and continue with even greater dedication to meet the European agenda, "said Mr. Krivokapić. 
During the meeting with Commissioner File interlocutors agreed on the successful role played by the Parliament of Montenegro is in the process of European integration. 
They also discussed the parliamentary challenges in further stages of accession negotiations, in what sense the President Krivokapić informed the Commissioner Füle on activities which were constantly being implemented, in order to prepare the Parliament of Montenegro institutionally for new European obligations.
At the meeting of the International Relations Committee of the European Parliament (AFET) Mr. Krivokapić thanked European MPs for the support provided to Montenegro on its path towards the EU, as well as their active involvement in the promotion of the enlargement policy. 
President Krivokapić pointed out that the rule of law was the highest degree of maturity that one country could achieve, and a special focus of our European partners to chapters 23 and 24 was therefore justified. 
President Krivokapić said that the Constitutional Committee was intensively working on harmonization of constitutional amendments in accordance with the recommendations of the Venice Commission, expressing satisfaction with the approach and seriousness that political actors attach to the issue of amending the Constitution.
President Krivokapić answered questions of European parliamentarians from all parliamentary groups, which were among other related to freedom of media, minority status, economic prospects of Montenegro, the role of SPC (Serbian Orthodox Church) in Montenegro. 
During his stay in Brussels, the President Krivokapić attended the meeting of the PES Presidium at which the members of the Presidium were addressed by the candidate for Chancellor of the German SPD, Mr. Peer Steinbrück. This political association, the second strongest in the European Parliament, celebrated 20 years of its existence yesterday, and on that occasion, at the anniversary in Brussels, it brought together leaders of the party members, among whom was the president Krivokapić as well.
