Guests of the first democracy workshop on the topic of European Integration were MP Mr Slaven Radunović, Chairperson of the Committeeon European Integration of the Parliament of Montenegro and Mr Dragan Mugoša, spokesperson of the EU Delegation to Montenegro. They talked with students of the primary school “Bogdan Kotlica” from Boan, who participated for the second time at democracy workshops,about the EU institutions, citizens in the EU and European values. Students from Boan had an opportunity to acquire new knowledge on division of powers, role of the parliament in the process of decision making as well as the election process at the first workshop titled “Democracy and the Parliament”.
Chairperson of the Committeeon European Integration Mr Slaven Radunović talked with students about the relations between the EU and Montenegro, the manner of work of the European Parliament as well as the cooperation between that institution and the Parliament of Montenegro. Students were particularly interested in the work of the members of the European Parliament and how they can become members of the parliament. Member of the Parliament Radunović informed the students that negotiations between the EU and Montenegro were in progress and the role of the European Parliament was very important in that process.
Spokesperson of the EU Delegation to Montenegro Mr Dragan Mugoša informed the children about the EU institutions, its symbols and impact of the EU to the lives of the young. He spoke about possibilities for mobility of the young as well as the importance of adopting European values.
Guests of today’s workshops emphasized the importance of learning languages and advised the students to learn more foreign languages and continuously work on their education.
“Democracy workshops” project is aimed to strengthen interest of the young for democracy and political processes and contribute to their better understanding. In addition to workshops titled “Democracy and parliament”, new workshops have been organized on the topic of the European Union aimed at familiarizing children with the institutions and development of the European Union and European values as well.
Since the implementation of the project on 8 October 2012 until now, the project of democracy workshops gathered 3607 primary school students from different Montenegrin municipalities. Today’s workshop was the last in 2012/2013 school year and workshops will be organized on both topics as of September this year.
