The second part of the visit by the NATO PA to Belgrade has started today. The beginning of the visit, organised by the Embassy of Slovakia, as a contact point Embassy for NATO, was marked by a round table intended for representatives of the NATO member states and ambassadors. H.E. Ms Dagmar Repcekova, Ambassador of the Republic of Slovakia to the Republic of Serbia, opened the gathering by introductory speech. The gathering was focused on interactive discussion of delegates of the Committee on the Civil Dimension of Security of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly with ambassadors of the NATO member states.
In the continuation of the visit, the participants met Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Mr Igor Bečić, as well as representatives of parliamentary committees in charge of - foreign affairs, defence, internal affairs and European integration, and heads and members of the Standing Delegation of the national Assembly of the Republic of Serbia to the NATO PA. During the said meetings, the most significant results of the Serbian legislative body were presented to the guests as well as activities planned for the period to come. During the discussion, the participants of the gathering particularly emphasised the importance of meeting the obligations taken in the process of joining the European Union and implementing reforms with regard to that. The delegates were interested in current security issues of the Republic of Serbia, its challenges and possible models for their overcoming.
Day two of the visit by the Committee on the Civil Dimension of Security of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly - Sub-committee on Democratic Governance of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly was devoted to meetings with Prime Minister of the Serbian Government Mr Aleksandar Vučić, First Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Ivica Dačić and Minister of Internal Affairs of the Republic of Serbia Mr Nebojsa Stefanović.
On the occasion, the most important activities of internal and external policy of the Republic of Serbia were presented to the delegates of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly. A special part of the discussion was devoted to issues of the European future of the Republic of Serbia in regional terms, with special reference to challenges that this state faced and possibilities for their overcoming.
Activities within the visit of the Committee on the Civil Dimension of Security - Sub-committee on Democratic Governance of the NATO Parliamentary Assembly will be continued tomorrow.
