Mr Obrad Mišo Stanišić and Mr Ranko Krivokapić took part in the meeting on behalf of the Parliament of Montenegro’s permanent delegation to the NATO PA while the visiting delegation was composed of: Head of the NATO PA Delegation from the Parliament of the Kingdom of Sweden Mr Björn von Sydow, Member of the Parliament Mr Göran Petterson and Deputy Head of Mission of the Kingdom of Sweden Embassy in Belgrade Ms Liselott Martynenko Agerlid. The meeting was also attended by non-residential ambassador of Montenegro to Sweden Mr Miroslav Šćepanović.
Members of the Parliament of Montenegro’s permanent delegation to the NATO Parliamentary Assembly informed the guests about the results achieved in the field of Euro-Atlantic integration of Montenegro, with a special reference to challenges and tasks in this regard, considering that the signing of the Accession Protocol represented a confirmation of the great progress that Montenegro had made in the defence sector, but also in other fields relevant for assessing the level of preparedness for membership in the Alliance.
The meeting also discussed the current political developments in the country, stating that new status of Montenegro in the collective defence system would contribute to further strengthening of institutions and rule of law as well as to overall development of the society.
During the meeting, they jointly noted that in the past period Montenegro had undertaken comprehensive reforms and achieved results assessed as relevant and positive by partners, which contributed not only to strengthening of institutions, establishing the rule of law and sustainable economic development, but also to strengthening stability and security of the whole region.
With regard to that, they emphasised the importance of integration of the Western Balkans, especially former Yugoslav republics into the community of Euro-Atlantic states, with the aim of providing contribution to stability and security in the European area and broader, through good neighbourly relations, joint work and cooperation.
Participants of the meeting shared views with regard to facing the present security challenges and developments at the international political scene, stressing the importance of ensuring the rule of law, democracy, stability and prosperity, and in this regard they pointed out the importance of commitment to pursuing the implementation of the established legal framework and improving the functioning of organs and institutions in the defence and security sector of Montenegro.
