Emphasising that Montenegro was the state which has been striving to Euro-Atlantic integrations in all fields, with special reference to security and defence issues, Chairperson of the Committee Mr MevludinNuhožićparticularly emphasised the significance of opening negotiation chapter 24: Justice, freedom and security. Mr Nuhodžić said that the component of national security was significant and inseparable part of interstate cooperation with neighbouring countries, countries in the region, countries in Europe and even wider, hence the issue must be approached with great attention and responsibility, adding that – in that context – eventual security risks for Montenegro must be analysed with full political sensibility, and pointing out that democratisation of the society and strengthening of state institutions, their staff and capacity training, professional and independent relation towards security and challenges were indeed the fundamental defence from all security risks for Montenegro.
Participants of the meeting jointly stressed the significance of timely fight against terrorism and its adequate prevention with the aim of avoiding the eventual risks from those occurrences which do not know boundaries among countries and have global character. In addition, it was assessed that in the context of integration processes, Montenegro have been making efforts to fulfil its European agenda in the best possible manner. Montenegro have been sending a clear message to international community that, on the basis of European values and in the integration phase to come, it is ready to be a constructive partner to all regional states and wider, and also a promoter of common European values, with a special reference to strengthening capacities in the defence and security sector and strengthening parliamentary control of these structures.
