In the organisation of the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia, Regional Centre for Security Cooperation (RACVIAC) and Geneva Centre for the Democratic Control of Armed Forces (DCAF), the Second regional conference of Defence and Security Committees from SEE Parliaments is being held in Belgrade, where experience and positive practice on engaging parliamentary committees in emergency situations will be exchanged, with special reference to the last year’s catastrophic floods in the region.
The conference, where a member of the Security and Defence Committee of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Darko Pajović is participating , was opened – on behalf of the host - by Chairperson of the the Defence and Internal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly of the Republic of Serbia Ms Marija Obradović.
In addition to representatives of parliamentary bodies, who reminded of the existing legal framework and agreements defining mutual cooperation in the Southeast Europe region, the participants of the conference were also addressed by representatives of the civil protection sector of the regional countries and experts dealing with issues of waters and floods, particularly in basins of rivers Sava and Danube.
Parliamentary delegations and experts from Slovenia, Croatia, Serbia, Macedonia, Albania, Austria. Romania, Turkey and Bosnia and Herzegovina are participating in this gathering.
