The Chairman of the Committee, Mr. Mevludin Nuhodžić, pointed to the importance of the overall participation of Montenegro in the Membership Action Plan (MAP) and acquainted the Delegation with the work and activities of the Committee in the previous period. He emphasized that, bearing in mind positive assessments of Alliance Member States, commenced processes should be continued at the same pace, with special regard to realization of activities in the field of the rule of law, reforms of defense and security sector, and strengthening of support of public to the Euro-Atlantic path of Montenegro.
The Chairman Nuhodžić reminded to the importance of adoption and success in two-year application of the Law on Parliamentary Supervision in the area of security and defense, which significantly expanded the responsibilities of the Defense and Security Committee of the Parliament of Montenegro in this area.
In his speech, he emphasized the importance of participation of members of Military of Montenegro in United Nations ISAF peace missions in Afghanistan and pointed to the continuity and efficiency of cooperation of the Committee with the Ministry of Defense and the Military of Montenegro.
The Chairman Nuhodžić concluded that the Committee will provide in the future for the full support to operators in the sector of defense and security in meeting the established standards and achievement in the process of European and Euro-Atlantic integration.
Representatives of the NATO Member States stated the importance of the achieved progress of Montenegro on the path of Euro-Atlantic Integrations and expressed full support to the continuation of this process. It was especially pointed to the significance of participation of members of Military of Montenegro in United Nations ISAF peace missions in Afghanistan and positively assessed the activities of the Committee on Security and Defense in conduction of parliamentary supervision, as well as development and improvement of cooperation on bilateral and multilateral level.
At the meeting, it was mutually pointed to the need of informing the citizens of Montenegro in detail of the process of Euro-Atlantic Integrations and effects of NATO membership.
The Delegation of Ambassadors of the NATO Member States consisted of: H. E. Mr. Andrej Benedejčić, permanent representative of the Republic of Slovenia in Northern-Atlantic Council; H. E. Mr. Jean-Jacques Welfring, permanent representative of the Luxembourg in Northern-Atlantic Council; H. E. Mr. Boris Grigić, permanent representative of the Republic of Croatia in Northern-Atlantic Council and H. E. Mr. František Kašicky, permanent representative of Slovakia in Northern-Atlantic Council.
The Meeting was attended by the Ambassador Mr. Vesko Garčević, Head of the Mission of Montenegro with NATO and the Secretary in the Embassy of the Republic of Slovenia in Montenegro, Ms. Milena Radenković.
