Day three of the conference started with a meeting of the Troika, followed by the session III which included a presentation and a debate with the Deputy Secretary General of NATO Mr Alexander Vershbow. During the debate, the participants jointly noted the importance of strengthening cooperation and coordination at the EU - NATO relation, particularly in the context of continuous upgrading of defence capacities and creating security ambience as common good. On the occasion, they particularly emphasised the importance of Transatlantic cooperation and its geo-political significance, assessing that - bearing in mind new security challenges, threats and far-reaching consequences it caused - it had a significant influence on the security in Europe and beyond.
Mr Nico Schrijver, Deputy Chair of the Political Preparatory Group for the IPC of the Netherlands Parliament, chaired the session IV. The session was marked by a presentation followed by debate with Ms Helga Schmid, Deputy Secretary General for Political Affairs at the European External Action Service.
During the closing session, participants of the meeting were presented with results of workshops, which was followed by the adoption of the Conclusions of Inter-parliamentary conference on the common foreign and security policy and the common security and defence policy.
The Inter-parliamentary conference was aimed at providing a framework for the exchange of information and best practice in the field of the Common Foreign and Security Policy (CFSP) and the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), and providing information to the national parliaments and the European Parliament on issues from the subject fields.
During the gathering, participants of the conference devotes special attention to strengthening parliamentary cooperation in the defence sector, role of parliamentary decision-making in deploying military forces for rapid action and security strategy of the European Union in the current moment.
The conference gathered around 200 participants, namely: parliamentarians, high officials of the European Union and NATO, and foreign experts form the security and defence sector of the European Union member states.
Chairperson of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants Mr Miodrag Vuković and member of the Security and Defence Committee Mr Luiđ Ljubo Škrelja participated in the Inter-parliamentary conference on the common foreign and security policy and the common security and defence policy, held in The Hague, from 6 to 8 April 2016.
Inter-parliamentary conference, organised within Dutch presidency of the European Union Council, ended today.
