Members of the Committee on Economy, Finance and Budget held a meeting with the Delegation of the Budget Committee of European Parliament.
MP Zoran Jelić informed the Members of the Committee on Economy, Finance and Budget on the procedure of planning and implementation of budget of Montenegro, as well as on the role and manner of work of the line working body for this area. He paid special attention to the part of indirect control of the state budget via the work of the State Audit Institution and the system of internal controls and audits.
Members of the Budget Committee of European Parliament were interested in issues relating to the following: tax system, privatisation process, impact of the black market economy on the fiscal sector, financial control of spending of public funds, quality of statistical data, introduction of unilateral euroisation, guarantees of the Government, the issue of youth unemployment and state measures, reforms in the pension system, as well as using the means from the IPA funds.
Members of the Committee on Economy, Finance and Budget stated their opinions and answered the questions asked.
MP Zoran Jelić, as the Chair of the meeting, concluded that in the process of planning and implementation of the Budget of Montenegro there is a relatively high degree of implementation of the economic standards and European practice. Additionally, he concluded that the role and significance of the Parliament of Montenegro is getting stronger in the process of control, and he pointed out that the mechanisms for implementation of the public budget control need to be further enhanced.
