On the second working day, the participants of the Bled Strategic Forum were addressed by the Slovenian Prime Minister Ms Alenka Bratušek, who was speaking on the daily changes at the global level, stating that Europe could be a strong player at the word’s level only by building strong and competitive European Union. During her addressing to members of the Bled Strategic Forum, while speaking on the crises at the global level, the Prime Minister emphasised that there were no easy solutions but that overcoming of the crisis was a long process which often required making difficult decisions.
Minister of Foreign Affairs Mr Karl Erjavec and Major of Bled Mr Janez Fajfar also addressed participants of the Bled Strategic Forum.
Following the introductory statements of the Prime Minister Ms Alenka Bratušek, Minister Erjavec and Major Fajfar, the discussion had started with the following panellists: Mr Heinz Fisher President of Austria, Ms Preneet Kaur Minister of State for External Affairs of India, Mr Enrico Letta President of the Council of Ministers of Italy and Mr Borut Pahor President of the Republic of Slovenia, who stated their position on the current state of play and future of the European Union in light of changes that had been happening at the global plan; after that, they answered questions of the Bled Strategic Forum participants.
President of the Republic of Slovenia Mr Borut Pahor emphasised that he was advocating the implementation of idea of United States of Europe, pointing out that the first step towards realisation of the idea should be adoption of the joint Constitution and that the countries which accepted the joint Constitution should be members of the United States of Europe and countries opposing the Constitution should resign from the membership.
Chairperson of the Committee on European Integration Mr Slaven Radunović actively participated in the panel discussion and asked panellists – bearing in mind all problems that the European Union has been facing with, the counties which are currently in the joining process after fulfilling conditions that are being required, in the moment when knock at the door of the European Union, whether there will be someone to open the door.
Mr Heinz Fisher, President of Austria, said in his answer to posed question that all countries that had fulfilled required conditions were admitted to the European Union, emphasising that for the countries accessing the European Union was most important to fulfil set conditions and accept European values and standards.
