The Conference was attended by representatives of 27 member states’ parliaments, Members of the European Parliament and Norway.
The Conference covered topics such as: A European New Deal: stimulating public and private investment for growth and jobs in Europe, Fiscal consolidation and structural reforms: state of play and best practices in implementing the fiscal compact and Strengthening the Social dimension of the EMU.
The keynote speakers for the said topics, among others, were: Mr Martin Schulz, President of the European Parliament, Ms Ināra Mūrniece, Speaker of the Saeima of the Republic of Latvia, Mr Pierre Moscovici, European Commissioner for Economic and Financial Affairs, Taxation and Customs Commission, Mr Olli Rehn, Vice President of the European Parliament, Mr Jean Arthuis, Chair of the Committee on Budgets, Mr Valdis Dombrovskis, European Commission Vice-President for the Euro and Social Dialogue and Ms Marita Ulvskog, Acting Chair of the Committee on Employment and Social Affairs.
Following the discussion and sharing views on the said topics, the participants pointed out to the necessity of encouraging the economic growth of the Union, need for consolidating public finance, decreasing budgetary deficit and the level of public debt. Additionally, they emphasised the need for intensifying structural reforms along with strengthening role of social dimension of European Union which should enable favourable conditions for recovery and growth, improved functioning of the labour market and increasing of employment.
