Representatives of the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms participated at the ceremonious meeting on the occasion of marking the International Human Rights Day

Ceremonious meeting was organised in two panels, on the following topics: “Ten years of the Institution of Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms of Montenegro” and “Freedom of Assembly in Montenegro”

Chairperson of the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms Mr Halil Duković, MD, and Deputy Chairperson of the Committee Ms Ljiljana Đurašković, PhD, participated at the ceremonious meeting on the occasion of marking the International Human Rights Day, organised by the Institution of Protector of Human Rights and Freedoms of Montenegro, Ministry for Human and Minority Rights, OSCE Mission to Montenegro and the NGO “Civic Alliance”.

Chairperson of the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms Mr Halil Duković, MD, focused his address on preparation and holding of the “pride parades” held in Budva and Podgorica. By their holding, the institutions of the country of Montenegro have shown readiness and competence to provide protection of human rights of all the citizens, and thus the members of LGBT population as well. He pointed out that the said events had shown that there was a high level of homophobia in Montenegro and that a large number of citizens of Montenegro were not ready to accept the persons of different sexual orientation and gender identity. He recalled that Montenegro had made significant progress in protection of human rights and freedoms of all the citizens, which was also the assessment of relevant international organisations, but apart from that, it was necessary in the following period for all the state authorities, under their competence, to contribute to further improvement of the state of human rights and freedoms.
