Delegation of the Parliament of Montenegro composed of MPs Husnija Šabović, member of the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms and Nikola Gegaj, member of the Gender Equality Committee participated in the Joint Conference "Fundamental rights, non-discrimination and the protection of vulnerable groups, including the LGBT population", held in Tirana on 20 and 21 November 2014 and organized by the European Parliament, European Commission and Italian Presidency of the Council of the European Union.
MP Šabović informed all the participants about the work of this Committee, in the field of protection of LGBT rights, and stated that the Committee on Human Rights and Freedoms, as the control role of the Parliament, considered the 2013 - 2018 Strategy for improving quality of life of LGBT persons, at the meeting held on 1 July 2013.
Participants of the conference were unanimous in their opinion that the cooperation of all society segments is necessary in the fight for respect of basic rights of all, especially the most vulnerable groups. Also, participants were unanimous in their assessment that it is not enough to have only the existence of anti-discriminatory legislation, but to have effective implementation of the law.
