Meeting of members of the Committee on International Relations and Immigrants with the Speaker of the National Council Austria, Ms. Barbara Prammer

Within the official visit of the Speaker of the National Council Austria, Ms. Barbara Prammer to Montenegro, a meeting was also held with the members of the Committee on International Relations and Immigrants of the Parliament of Montenegro.

Chairman of the Committee Mr. Miodrag Vuković, docent PhD, presented to Speaker Prammer competencies of the newly formed Committee on International Relations and Immigrants and emphasised its significance defined by the amendments to the Rules of Procedure of the Parliament of Montenegro, especially in the part of issues relating to promotion and protection of the rights of immigrants from Montenegro who live in other countries.

Mr. Vuković pointed out that the Committee will be dedicated to parliamentary diplomacy, which will be a very important segment of work in the upcoming stages of European and Euro-Atlantic integration, through meetings with the colleagues parliamentarians within friendship groups and numerous international frameworks of cooperation.

Speaker of the National Council Austria, Ms. Prammer, spoke on the importance of establishing close inter-parliamentary cooperation and emphasised that it is needed more than ever in the processes that are before Montenegro. Ms. Prammer also pointed out the importance of national parliaments given by the Lisbon Treaty and noted that it is necessary to achieve balance between executive and legislative power, by strengthening role of parliaments in all the processes that one country goes through.

It was agreed at the meeting that the further cooperation of these two parliaments shall continue through more intense meetings of the representatives of line committees dealing with foreign affairs, and especially through activities of Friendship Groups.
