At the First joint Meeting of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants and the Committee on European Integration, with the presence and active participation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, Mr. Igor Lukšić PhD, the Performance Report of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration for 2012 was considered.
In his address to the members of two committees, while summarising the Performance Report, Mr. Igor Lukšić PhD pointed out that the past year would be remembered by, so far, the most significant results achieved in set out frameworks of the foreign policy priorities of Montenegro, within which Montenegro opened the negotiations on accession to the European Union, and that the messages of support and encouragement sent during the May NATO Summit in Chicago were a confirmation that Montenegro had made a significant step toward NATO membership. A coordinated multilateral policy of Montenegro resulted in full-fledged membership to the World Trade Organisation on 29th April, which confirmed the observation of rules at the international trade scene. Additionally, the Minister pointed out that the contribution to promotion and protection of human rights was rewarded by membership of Montenegro to the United Nations Human Rights Council in the period from 2013 to 2015. Mr. Lukšić concluded his address with optimism regarding the European and Euro-Atlantic perspective of Montenegro, pointing out the certainty of the said processes and stated that the successful diplomacy within the international and regional organisations contributed to better position of the country at the international level. In addition, the balanced politics and continuously good cooperation with the most important international actors were emphasised, as well as eventful and close relations with neighbours, as an unequivocally important precondition to success at the multilateral and regional level.
After a long and constructive debate, in which almost all present members of both committees took part, there was a separate vote on the Report, as stipulated in the Rules of Procedure. Co-chairs of the meeting, Mr. Miodrag Vuković docent PhD and Mr. Slaven Radunović concluded that the Progress Report of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration for 2012 had been adopted by a majority of votes of the members present, both in the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants and the Committee on European Integration.
Present members of both committees welcomed the initiated practice of joint consideration of the Performance Report of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and European Integration, deeming it to be a good practice model, with expectation to continue such trend of work.
