Delegation of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants participates in the presentation of a newly-established association of Montenegrin emigrants in Kosovo “Montenegrin Intellectual Circle”

Joint agreement on stronger support to constitutional recognition of Montenegrins in the Constitution of Kosovo

On the occasion of establishing the association “Montenegrin Intellectual Circle”, the ceremonious meeting was attended by persons from political and cultural life of Kosovo, people with origins from Montenegro living in Kosovo, as well as friends of Montenegro. In addition to Chairperson of the Committee Mr Miodrag Vuković, the speakers at the meeting included: president of the new association Mr Predrag Despotović,chargé d'affaires of Montenegro in Kosovo Mr Radovan Miljanić, well-known politician and lawyer in Priština Mr Azem Vlasi, publicist Mr Nedžmedin Spahiju, and director of Diaspora Administration Mr Predrag Mitrović.

Participation of Delegation of the Committee consisting of Mr Miodrag Vuković and Mr Nikola Gegaj was especially emphasised as very significant, because it directly reflected the relation of the parliament recognising the importance of emigrants from Montenegro, their potential and the need for closer cooperation with all its institutions.

When addressing the attendees, Mr Miodrag Vuković pointed out that emigrant organisations had and always would have support in the lead committee of the Montenegrin Parliament. The need for adopting a fundamental law in order to determine the basis for comprehensive, reasoned, and time-appropriate policy aimed at connecting Montenegro with its own outside of Montenegro in the right manner, was expecting its formal adoption in the Parliament of Montenegro. Emphasising that Montenegrins in Kosovo were facing a historic task, their constitutional recognition, he pointed out the necessity that it should be a foundation on which there was a common agreement and the first step toward unity of all people having Montenegro as their country of origin and living in Kosovo. “Diaspora as an important link in democratic shaping of a country of origin and selfless keeper of identity, only united and harmonious can keep its specificum and its distinctiveness in the times that lay before us “, said Mr Vuković on that occasion. In his speech, the Chairperson of the Committee extended a message of support to efforts of all Montenegrin communities in Kosovo on continuously connecting people regardless of their religious, national or other differences, but also on their further contribution to building a more prosperous multi-ethnic society in Kosovo.

Delegation used their stay in Kosovo to also meet with the President of the Association of Montenegrins in Kosovo Mr Slobodan Vujičić, with whom they shared opinions on the future activities of the organisation.
