At the meeting of the Committee, attended by the MPs form the countries in the region, they exchanged opinions on accession of the countries of the Western Balkans to the EU. The MPs present at the meeting were addressed by the Commissioner for EU enlargement, Mr Štefan Füle, who, speaking of membership of the Republic of Croatia to the EU, with regards to the countries in the region which are in the accession process, pointed out that he was pleased with Montenegro’s current progress with the accession negotiations, which had shown willingness and determination to solve all open issues.
Mr Štefan Füle noted that by autumn Montenegro’s Progress Report would be considered by the EU member states, as well as the Action Plans prepared by the Government of Montenegro, in order to open the Chapters 23 and 24. Additionally, he expressed a firm belief that in the autumn Montenegro would open negotiations for both of these Chapters, and possibly some others as well. In the end of his address to the present members at the ceremony meeting of the Committee on Foreign Affairs, Mr Füle expressed support for further European path of Montenegro and the countries in the region.
One of the speakers at the ceremony meeting of the Committee was Mr Charles Tannock, who, welcoming the accession of the Republic of Croatia to the EU, pointed out that he supported Montenegro in the accession process. He thanked the Government of the Republic of Croatia for their provided translations of the Acquis. In the end of his address, he pointed out that he believed that Montenegro would succeed in reaching the set standards and conditions of the EU, and that it would soon be a part of the family of European peoples.
Following the end of the meeting, the Chairperson of the Committee on International Relations and Emigrants, Mr Miodrag Vuković docent PhD, had an informal conversation with Mr Štefan Füle and Mr Eduard Kukan.
