Committee on monitoring the investigation of cases of endangering security of journalists and media outlets held its first meeting, chaired by President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Darko Pajović.
At the meeting, Mr Milorad Vuletić was unanimously elected co-chair from among parliamentary majority, while Mr Koča Pavlović was elected, also unanimously, co-chair from among the opposition.
In the continuation of the meeting, the participants discussed the manner and plan of the Committee work.
In performing its duties, the Committee analyses unresolved cases of violence against journalists and threats, including murder of Mr Duško Jovanović in 2004, with the aim of improving investigations, identifying and bringing to justice not only perpetrators but also possible masterminds. The Committee also analyses cases of intimidating journalists and media outlets which may lead to strengthening self-censorship and limiting the space for investigative journalism. The Committee will give recommendations for further activities of the state bodies and follow their implementation.
The meeting was attended by the Committee members: Ms Marta Šćepanović, Mr Milorad Vuletić, Mr Goran Tuponja, Mr Koča Pavlović Mr Srđan Milić and Mr Izet Bralić.
The meeting was not attended by: Mr Andrija Popović and Mr Emilo Labudović.
