Chairperson of the Committee on Education, Science, Culture and Sports Ms Branka Tanasijević has held a meeting with representatives of the European Students’ Union (ESU) and the Student Parliament of the University of Montenegro (SPUCG).
This is one of the meetings planned within the five-day visit of the ESU representatives to Montenegro with a view to analyse the state of affairs in the higher education and assess readiness of the SPUCG to obtain a positive report which would be a key step towards achieving a full-fledged membership to the ESU. At the sitting of the ESU General Assembly held in May in Yerevan, the SPUCG, after meeting the required criteria, was granted a candidate status for a full-fledged membership to the ESU.
During the meeting, the ESU representatives were interested in the following: general information on work, structure, composition, and competencies of the Committee on Education, Science, Culture and Sports; the Committee’s role in the legislative procedure; Law on Higher Education with regard to students’ status: involvement of students in the process of adoption of laws; involvement of students in the work of the Committee; funding of higher education and the University of Montenegro; role of the Committee and the Parliament in the field of higher education; representation of issues of students’ status and standards and similar issues at the meetings of the Committee.
In addition to the Chairperson of the Committee, the meeting was attended by: member of the Committee Ms Jelisava Kalezić; ESU representatives Mr Martin Retelj, Mr Aleksandar Šušnjar, and Mr David Kiss; SPUCG representatives Mr Miloš Pavićević, Mr Rajko Golović and Mr Nikola Bošković.
