The Gender Equality Committee of the Parliament of Montenegro held its sixteenth meeting in Pljevlja, on the topic “Economic Empowerment of Women and Women in Politics and Decision-Making”.
Apart from the members of the Committee, the meeting was also attended by the following: MP Novica Stanić; Mr Miloje Pupović, PhD, the Mayor of Municipality of Pljevlja; members of the Gender Equality Council of the Municipal Assembly of Pljevlja; and the representatives of the Secretariat for Social Activities.
During the discussion it was pointed out that the economic empowerment of women represented a basis for strengthening their role in society, as well as that the economic independence of women was key to their overall equality.
The Committee commended the Municipality of Pljevlja for being the first to adopt the Local Action Plan for achieving gender equality.
Within their visit to Pljevlja, the members of the Committee visited the Safe House for Women led by the NGO “Bona Fida”.
The Committee meeting was implemented with the support by the OSCE Mission to Montenegro.
