At today’s joint meeting of the Gender Equality Committee and the Committee on Education, Science, Culture and Sports, the Initiative for introducing compulsory sexual education in the education system of Montenegro was considered, submitted by Women and Peace Education “ANIMA“.
Following the discussion, in the context of the submitted Initiative, members of the Committee concluded that it was necessary to: analyse strategic documents and laws relating to the field; use experiences of other countries (examples of positive practice); do a research for the purpose of creating a realistic picture of the state of affairs in the field; establish dialogue of all subjects relating the issue of sexuality with the aim of consolidating the expert knowledge; consider the possibility of introducing the school subject – sexual education; raising awareness among teachers and parents and influence to removing prejudices and stereotypes regarding the issue of sexuality.
With the aim of providing the quality solutions in the field, it was proposed the Gender Equality Committee and the Committee on Education, Science, Culture and Sports to organise a roundtable, inviting all subjects who deal the issue of sexuality to participate.
The meeting was attended by: representatives of the Centre for Women and Peace Education “ANIMA“ Ms Ljubomirka Kovačević and Margita Bećirović, Assistant Minister of Education Ms Vesna Vučurović, Assistant Minister for Human and Minority Rights Ms Blanka Radošević Marović and Advisor to the Minister of Education Ms Tamara Milić.
