Members of the Gender Equality Committee of the Parliament of Montenegro had a meeting with the representatives of Roma and Egyptian women in Montenegro

The topic of the meeting was the position of Roma and Egyptian women in Montenegro, with emphases to arranged marriages.

Members of the Gender Equality Committee, Ms. Nada Drobnjak, Ms. Ljerka Dragičević and Ms. Branka Tanasijević MA, had a meeting today with the representatives of Roma and Egyptian women in Montenegro, regarding the social and economic position and education of Roma and Egyptian women in Montenegro, with emphases to arranged marriages.

The Vice-President of the Parliament, Mr. Suljo Mustafić, addressed the present at the beginning. Representative of the UN System Mr. Benjamin Perks, Deputy Minister for Human and Minority Rights Mr. Sabahudin Delić and representative of the Center for Development of Roma Initiatives Ms. Fatima Naza spoke during the introductory part.

Ms. Sabaheta Radosavljević, 17 years old mother of the two-year-old daughter, shared her life story.

During the meeting, documentary film “Arranged Marriage” was screened.

In addition to the members of the Committee, the representatives of certain ministries and institutions, international organizations attended the meeting, as well as representatives of non-governmental organizations that dealt with the issue of Roma and Egyptian female population position in Montenegro.
