Members of the Committee on Health, Labour and Social Welfare meet representatives of American NGO “The Advocates for Human Rights”

MPs Mr Andrija Popović, Mr Izet Bralić and Mr Srđan Perić, members of the Committee on Health, Labour and Social Welfare, held a meeting with representatives of American NGO “The Advocates for Human Rights” - Ms Amy Berquist and Ms Angela Liu. The meeting was also attended by Ms Tanja Markuš, coordinator of “Women in Culture” programme at the Women’s Right Center.

The meeting was also attended by Ms Tanja Markuš, coordinator of “Women in Culture” programme at the Women’s Right Center.

The meeting addressed the topic of protection against domestic violence for the purpose of establishing the factual state in the field of implementation of the Law on Domestic Violence in Montenegro.  The aim of the meeting was acquiring information on functioning of laws in Montenegro in the process of protection of victims of violence and in the process of defining the responsibility of the offenders as well as defining recommendations.

Members of the Committee agreed that domestic violence was a big social problem and that there was a certain level of awareness in Montenegro on the importance of this problem.  The interview on the topic of protection against domestic violence in Montenegro was conducted with members of the Committee on Heath, Labour and Social Welfare.  The acquired information will be documented in the form of a report, after which the recommendations will be sent to governments on the basis of the international legal framework for human rights.
