The meeting was on conclusions and recommendations from the OSCE/ODIHR Report following presidential elections held in April in Montenegro, harmonisation of the electoral legislation and practice with OSCE recommendations as well as actual forms of cooperation which would support future measures of Montenegro regarding implementation of OSCE/ODIHR recommendations.
Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Limited Election Observation Mission Mr Boris Frlec said that he was pleased by the fact that Montenegrin Parliament established the Working Group for Building Trust in the Election Process. Mr Frlec repeated that OSCE/ODIHR as well as Venice Commission was at disposal for expert opinion if MPs considered they need it.
Representatives of MPs Groups in Montenegrin Parliament voiced pleasure over several-year long support which OSCE/ODIHR had been providing to Montenegro. They expressed expectation that the Working Group for Building Trust in the Election Process would complete soon the set of laws dealing with the electoral legislation. MPs informed Mr Frlec that apart from them, representatives of the NGO sector in Montenegro contributed to the work of the Working Group, namely: CEMI, CDT and MANS.
Head of the OSCE/ODIHR Limited Election Observation Mission Mr Boris Frlec voiced particular pleasure over the fact that members of NGO organizations actively participated in the Working Group for Building Trust in the Election Process.
The joint conclusion of the Meeting is that the main aim is raising citizens’ confidence in electoral legislation.
