During the continuation of the XV Cetinje Parliamentary Forum, legal frameworks for oversight of security and defence sector were discussed. The moderator of the session on the concerned topic was the Chairperson of the Security and Defence Committee Mr Mevludin Nuhodžić.
In his opening address, Chairperson Nuhodžić said that the implementation of the parliamentary control over defence and security sector had no static characteristics but it was a process that had been improved and innovated continuously.
“Challenges are being changed and we, as parliamentarians, must always follow the dynamics of current events and trends in the field of defence and security, in order to be able to respond timely and to harmonise and improve mechanisms of our work, with the aim of quality and efficient operating of bodies and institutions in the defence sector and security sector”, Mr Nuhodžić assessed.
During the discussion, experiences and views on whether the existing legal framework in the participating countries was sufficient for continuous and effective implementation of parliamentary oversight were exchanged, with particular reference to models which would improve the work in practice.
At the end of the XV Cetinje Parliamentary Forum, the Joint Declaration was adopted.
This year XV Cetinje Parliamentary Forum, organised by the Parliament of Montenegro in cooperation with the Centre for Security, Development and the Rule of Law (DCAF), gathered more than 50 parliamentarians from the region.
