Delegation composed of members from the Committee on Economy, Finance and Budget and Committee on Health, Labour and Social Welfare attended two-day parliamentary seminar at the topic “Health and Consumer Protection”, held in Brussels, on 19 and 20 February, in the organisation of the European Parliament.
During the seminar, the role and position of the European Parliament were discussed in terms of legislation relating to health and consumer protection and its application as well as food safety, control of food chain and oversight and prevention of epidemics.
MPs were also informed on the role of organisation for protection of consumers in the field and its cooperation with EU institutions.
A special accent was placed on needs for strengthening oversight of the market and control of the products safety.
During the separate part, representatives of parliaments of Albania, Macedonia, Serbia, Kosovo and Turkey had presentations on the current situation and activities undertaken in the field of improving health and consumer protection.
Following the speech of the Head of Parliament of Montenegro’s Delegation – Chairperson of the Committee on Health, Labour and Social Welfare Mr Zoran Jelić, Chief of the unit for pre-accession negotiations Mr Krzysztof Bernacki congratulated Montenegro on its progress and commended the previous process of harmonisation with the EU acquis.
