At its plenary meeting of 28 April, the Parliament (Congress of Deputies) of the Kingdom of Spain has unanimously adopted the Resolution calling upon the Government to support Montenegro’s candidature for full-fledged NATO member, at the summit in Wales.
The Resolution was submitted to the Parliament upon the proposal of Catalan MP Group, whose representative was a member of the Catalan ruling party CiU Mr Jordi Xucla.
The resolution points out that "Montenegro has made a significant progress, both through its active contribution to regional security in the Balkans and participation in the International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) in Afghanistan".
Members of the Spanish Parliament, as well as President Krivokapić in his address to Montenegrin Caucus in the U.S. Congress, mention that Montenegro is the only remaining state of the Mediterranean coast, which is not a member of NATO Alliance.
By the Resolution, the Parliament of the Kingdom of Spain assesses that Montenegro has made a significant progress in reforms necessary for joining the NATO Alliance "Commitment of Montenegro to become a full member of NATO is unquestionable, taking into account efforts of this country to meet the requirements set forth by the Alliance," the Resolution says.
"Congress of Deputies calls on the Government of the Kingdom of Spain to support Montenegro’s candidature for full-fledged NATO membership, at the summit which will be held in Newport – Wales, in the month of September”, the Resolution concludes.
