Three general debates were envisaged by the agenda, on the topic of the social composition of parliaments, preventing conflict of interest in parliament and the impact of direct election of chairpersons of parliamentary committees. In addition, secretaries general will during the course of three days have presentations on current issues, including parliamentary oversight of the secondary legislation, the Parliament's role in strategic planning at the national level, regulation of financial compensations to MPs and communication in the parliaments. They will also exchange experiences on a number of issues and challenges parliamentary administration encounter in their daily work. At the meeting of the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments there will be discussion about the activities of the Interparliamentary Union, as well as administrative and financial issues.
On the last day of the session of the Parliamentary Assembly, the joint conference of the IPU and the Association of Secretaries General of Parliaments will be held, entitled "The Power of Parliament to Demand Accountability from the Government: Reality and Prospects".
