Meeting Mustafić – Marwick

Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro Mr Suljo Mustafić received today Ms Tricia Marwick Speaker of the Scottish Parliament  

During today's meeting, Vice President Mustafić stated that Montenegro is progressing towards the EU and NATO, and in that process, he appreciates help and support of European partners. He also stressed the importance of cooperation between the parliaments and exchange of experience in the integration process.

On this occasion Vice President Mustafić emphasized the importance of strengthening the institutions of legal state, especially the Parliament through the legislative and oversight role. "The rule of law in the state is important, and it is the standard we need to achieve in the integration process", said Vice President Mustafić, stressing the importance of the fact that parliaments with much more organized structure, and which are the part of the EU, provide partner assistance for Montenegro and other parliaments in the region in capacity building.

Speaker of the Scottish Parliament Ms Tricia Marwick stated that Scotland is giving full support to political processes in Montenegro, regarding the integration into Euro-Atlantic structures.

Vice President Mustafić stated that it is very important that the citizens of Scotland adopt a mature, democratic decision in the upcoming referendum, which would mean prosperity, better economic future of Scotland, no matter what the decision would be. He noted that Montenegro has good relations with the United Kingdom presented through economic and cultural cooperation.

Interlocutors expressed their full readiness to strengthen bilateral cooperation between Montenegrin and Scottish Parliament, and to facilitate other forms of cooperation in the economic and cultural spheres.
