After extensive discussion and exchange of views, the need for urgent finding of optimal solutions was agreed for the situation this company and its workers found themselves in. The common opinion was expressed, that "Metalac", with its experience, workers and equipment – could surely survive in the competitive market conditions. Moreover, it was noted that for the purposes of Montenegrin market alone, whether it came to spare parts, construction or services, there was a need, not for one - but for more than one "Metalac". According to their opinion, this will especially become apparent when strategic construction of infrastructural, road and energy facilities goes underway, and when investments became 'deep', meaning that the money remained in Montenegro, using local knowledge, experience, existing and new technological basis to the extent possible. What the experience of advanced countries shows, is that without the production, processing, knowledge and creating of ones own products, there cannot exist real sector nor viable economy.
- According to the information and findings, current state of ″Metalac″ is a product of irresponsible attitude of the owner, on one hand, and numerous irregularities and failure for action by judicial authorities and the Government of Montenegro, on the other hand. It is therefore essential that the Government of Montenegro, as the current owner of 75 percent of ″Metalac″, together with the Erste Bank with 25 percent, takes control over ″Metalac″ in legal way and forms new management that will allow normal production. One of the long-term solutions may be in finding a truly strategic investor in the field of metal processing, it was stated at a meeting today.
In addition, the interlocutors pointed out that it was necessary for judicial authorities to review the method of buying by the current owner, as well as the overall mode of operation, because there were many indications that illegal and improper activities happened.
- In terms of priority measures, it is required that the Government of Montenegro and the ministry in charge urgently prepare a social program for 93 employees and 29 workers and their families, who the owner is more than one year of severance pay in debt to, on the basis of which they would be settled with their obligations and provided with adequate social status.
- We urge the Government to, even today, immediately reacts and creates acceptable conditions for the termination of the strike, because human lives are at stake. If the Government of Montenegro does not react responsibly, the Parliament of Montenegro will, like in the case of Bauxite mine workers and workers of the KAP and the Steelworks, certainly initiate the solution for workers of ″Metalac″, it was said at the meeting.
