The conference addressed current and important issues in national policies and parliaments of small European states, recovery from the economic and debt crisis in small countries, as well as contribution of small countries to development of democratic governance.
The conference was chaired by Vicenç Mateu Zamora, President of the General Council of the Principality of Andorra (Consell General), the host Parliament of this year's conference.
In his address to participants of the conference, the Vice President of the Parliament of Montenegro Suljo Mustafić pointed out to clear progress of Montenegro in the field of European and NATO integration in the past period. Mustafić stressed the importance of opening the key negotiating Chapters 23 and 24 and emphasized positive and for Montenegro stimulating positions that were presented in the NATO Wales Summit Declaration.
"In accordance with pre-accession commitments, it is planned to establish the Special Prosecutor's Office for cases of corruption and organized crime. It is a step forward and the Parliament of Montenegro supports those efforts of the government, and we believe that, through joint efforts of the responsible institutions, it should be decisively and effectively coped with these problems, "- said Mustafić.
Vice President Mustafić informed the participants of the conference about the progress made in the work of the Parliament of Montenegro, in strengthening its control role, transparency and getting closer with the citizens.
At the end of the conference, a Joint Declaration was adopted, which contained key aspects and conclusions of the conference held in Andorra la Vella.
The host of the "Tenth Conference of Presidents of Parliaments of Small European States", which will be held next year, will be the National Council of the Principality of Monaco (Council National).
The Conference of Presidents of Parliaments is held every year in a different state and it gathers Parliament Speakers of nine small European states that have less than a million inhabitants including the Principality of Andorra, the Republic of Cyprus, the Republic of Iceland, the Principality of Liechtenstein, the Grand Duchy of Luxembourg, the Republic of Malta, the Principality of Monaco, the Republic of San Marino and Montenegro.
This year's conference, in addition to Vice President Mustafić and the host of the conference Vicenç Mateu Zamora, was attended by Einar K. Guðfinnsson, President of the Parliament of the Republic of Iceland, Albert Frick, President of the Parliament of the Principality of Liechtenstein, Mars di Bartolomeo, President of the Parliament of Great Duchy of Luxembourg, Hon Anglu Farrugia, President of the Parliament of the Republic of Malta, Laurent Nouvion, President of the Parliament of the Principality of Monaco, as well as representatives of the Parliament of the Republic of San Marino.
